{"id":3543,"date":"2019-09-18T17:11:58","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T17:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cancelmophoto.com\/wpgallery\/?page_id=3543"},"modified":"2026-03-30T14:12:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T19:12:28","slug":"bio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cancelmophoto.com\/wpgallery\/?page_id=3543","title":{"rendered":"Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jesse Cancelmo is an accomplished underwater photographer, author, and photojournalist.\u00a0 His articles and photographs have appeared in numerous diving and wildlife publications. \u00a0He is the author of four books: <strong>GLORIOUS GULF OF MEXICO (2017), TEXAS CORAL REEFS (2008), DIVING CAYMAN ISLANDS (1998), and DIVING BERMUDA<\/strong> <strong>(1990 and 2005)<\/strong>. Jesse was a contributing editor\/photographer for Dive Training Magazine from 1998-2020, and contributes regularly to Texas Parks &amp; Wildlife and other diving and wildlife magazines.\u00a0 Jesse leads groups on Gulf of Mexico and Indo-Pacific dive adventures and served on the Advisory Council for the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary for 11 years. In 2026, Jesse celebrates 56 years as a certified scuba diver and since 1970, not a year has gone by without him being immersed in the ocean on a coral reef with a camera.<\/p>\n<p><center><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.cancelmophoto.com\/img\/bio_pix.jpg?resize=271%2C262\" width=\"271\" height=\"262\" align=\"bottom\" border=\"0\" \/><\/center><center><\/center><center><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Photographing sailfish\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.cancelmophoto.com\/img\/Jesse_036287.jpg?resize=441%2C293\" alt=\"Photographing sailfish off of Isla Mujeres, Mexico\" width=\"441\" height=\"293\" \/><\/center><br \/>\nA native of suburban Philadelphia, Jesse was scuba certified in 1970 (YMCA) and cut his teeth on Jersey wreck diving in the mid- 1970s. \u00a0He relocated to Houston in 1976 where he lived until 2025 when he returned to his family roots in the Northeast. He currently resides with his wife Christine in Cape May, N.J.\u00a0 Jesse is a PADI Divemaster, was certified as a technical trimix diver (TDI) in 1998 and was full cave certified in 2011 (NACD). \u00a0In October &#8217;99, he dived the famous Civil War ship, USS Monitor, located off the coast of North Carolina in 230 feet of water and Jesse dived and photographed the Andrea Doria off Long Island, NY in 2001. Later that year Jesse and other technical diver-friends found and dived the Brine Seep, a hyper-saline lake formed at a depth of 2010 feet near the East Flower Garden Bank in the Gulf of Mexico.
